Irish former army ranger Robert Deegan, 29, was killed on September 19, 2024, in the Kharkiv region while fighting for the Stugna special unit of Ukraine's GUR. He had previously served in the Irish army, worked as a military instructor in Africa, and lost an eye in combat in October 2022 before returning to Ukraine in April 2024.
